The Desecration of 'The Dark Side of the Moon'
Now Playing - 'Rainbow's End' by '
Camel' sequenced by 'Stan and the Sequencers'
When Capital records reissued Dark Side on cd, they did some changes, left off some art, etc., in an attempt to hide the syncronization of Dark Side and the Wizard of Oz, IMHO.
StanNote: This discussion doesn't include the fact that they reissued again, and they changed the art again. And based by the outer cover, they desecrated it even further. Scans accepted! Anyhow, here's the versions that I have scans of -
I'll start with the effective labels -

As you can see, the record has a very bold, sharp cornered triangle/prism, and that's about it. You can probably see that rounded triangle, and if you look close you can see the sharp cornered triangle inside that one. But if you have the cd, pull it out and look at it, because you'll notice that the sharp corned triangle is MUCH tougher to see (I couldn't duplicate that with the scanner). Also notice, they have the added topographic map, a map that isn't found anywhere in the record art. I think they're trying to erase triangles. Why? See
The Signicance of the Prism page.
(cd outside of insert)
Of course, what's always interesting, is what's left out. The inside cover art of the record cannot be found on the cd -

(record inside cover)
"The music is reversible, but time is not" -
Electric Light Orchestra (Fire On High)
That, I do believe, was left out of the cd artwork, for 2 reasons. 1) It's the continuation of the rainbow from front to back (or vice-versa) that provides more evidence that the 'Rainbow's End' is on Dark Side, and 2) To erase the supposed heartbeat. But guess what, that couldn't possibly be a heartbeat, and I'll tell you why. Now, I'm gonna get slightly technical on ya, but you should be able to keep up. Notice the sharp downward trace. That's close to being known as the "flyback" pulse (tv talk), but it's got a difference. It actually flys back in the backward direction. See, that's not possible, as the electrocardiogram horizontal axis is based on time. And, well, except for the "Know-nothings" reading, you know that time cannot go backwards. ;-) I think the peaks are representative of the shape of the Wicked Witch's hat. And the color used, the green, is representative of the colour of her face. (see The Wizard of Oz)
Back to 1) a second. Here's something they did include, the back of the cd -

Notice, they broke the rainbow.
And there's more, here's the unduplicated artwork from inside the cd insert -

And here's what you're missing, (actually, this page is missing the 2 stickers that came with the record, donated scans appreciated as usual!) the posters that came with the record -

Some pictures seem to have been switched out on the 'Pink Floyd' poster art transformation to cd. I think it's that big cross you might notice in the lights in 'NK' picture. But what's MOST interesting, is 2 things about the 'Dark Side' poster art transformation. 1) They didn't use the correct colour, it should be green, but it's blue. And 2), they only give you a close up shot of the pyrimids. I think that's so you won't get the concept of the foreground of the poster being a poppy field! I think the green color is representative of the Emerald City's color, and the poster is representative of the first view of the Emerald City (which has the poppy field in the foreground) (see The Wizard of Oz)

"Don't be blue if you should be green" - Jeffrey Barnes
'Zydeco Gumby Ya Ya' - Brave Combo
I was gonna say goodbye there, but it seems that a newly digitally remastered version of The Wizard of Oz has just been released. The scan on the left is supposed to be from it -

The capture on the right is from the original VHS release. That release has been recalled (see Camel link above). Notice that the new version seems to be missing some green. Why, Emerald City appears to be more blue than green.

Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, 10th edition -
emerald - brightly or richly green
So, it's my belief that the (apparent) existence of the cover-up shows that there's a synchronicity for them to cover-up (in particular, The Police's 'Synchronicity I' (see the Camel link above)). Anyhow, make up your own mind! And don't let someone else make it up for you.
