- Little Jack Melody (Schwantz Lefantz) - "Deeply weird, utterly fab" - David Fricke of 'Rolling Stone'
"When the country fell in a vote of no confidence, we took to the spectacular sea. We anchored on the tip of international waters, one eye on the coast, one ear on the radio. There would come a time we would return, but for now we embraced the other sensitivos adrift with us on the steamer. Dramatic weather played itself out inland as dreamily we shuffled at shuffleboard and talked old movies. Days, months, years. The children soon knew only their sea legs. We tired of fish. The radio battery died. It was time to return.
We docked in a time preceding our own, returning to uncommon optimisms, public courtesies. The romantic era of petroleum and strong hairlines was back. Workers at service stations wore immaculate uniforms and discreetly whisked each automobile seat. Postures were upright, confidences kept. The pungence of sliced tangerines zinged through the coastal air.
The country, as always, drew its cues from the world of showbiz music, but the king currently was Little Jack Melody. His sound was swinging, smart, unabashedly sweet, not without honest regrets but never overcome with doubt. His inflection knew no acrimony, holding to an old-fashioned purity of tone. Drums ker-pow-pow-pounded, slap-ker-cha-splash, organs smoked and late-night saxophones wailed in the courtyard.
Little Jack Melody and his Young Turks were that carnival procession you heard as a child which begged you follow to some greater place. We disembarked our steamer knowing full well we'd arrived in the land of dreams." - Camden Joy

"if there was a star of the show it was Mann, who duplicated Harrison's always tasteful guitar fills with precision. Nearly every one of Mann's solos was greeted with shouts and wild applause from the crowd." - Post-Bulletin
